Farm Backpackers -A South African company which
runs a cultural exchange program aimed at people who wish
to stay for a decent amount of time and truly experience
the South African way of life, but dont have the budget
to do it independently. The Farm Backpackers is a tourism
based operation which includes backpacker accommodation,
an adventure centre and a farm restaurant offering open
air, bush style meals. The work is intended to be flexible
and give plenty of time off for exploring the local area. Fees
run at around 200 Euro per month but accepted candidates
will receive all accommodation and meals for free and will
be taught a wide range of things from how to run a tourism
based business, guiding hikes and day trips, to bush cooking
and recreational farming. |

cultures and an adventurous spirit. |

Vision International - A UK based organisation which
sources volunteers to international charities, non-profits
and research organisations. Since 1998 they have sent over
600 Volunteers on international internships, conservation
expeditions and teaching placements. In addition to placing
Volunteers they also provide funding for research equipment,
professional staffing and training. At the time of
writing GVI have projects from Nepal to Ecuador and South
Africa to Alaska. These vary from internships with leading
environmental non profits to field research positions in
the Amazon and The Kruger National Park. Projects range
from 3 weeks to a year, and are well suited to all ages
and backgrounds. All programmes are carefully selected and
their international and domestic partners include the South
Africa National Parks Board, Rainforest Concern and the
Endangered Wildlife Trust. |
