ATD
Fourth World works with people living in extreme
poverty. As a human rights movement we believe that
experiencing extreme poverty is a violation of basic
human rights. We are an International organisation
and we work in 27 different countries across 5 different
continents. We are involved at grass-roots levels
with the families living in poverty. We are also
involved with UNESCO, UNICEF and ILO. Our aim is
to eradicate extreme poverty worldwide. We
do this through learning and supporting people living
in poverty in different countries around the world.
Placements Available
1st Programme: Workcamps are held every
summer in Mery-sur-Oise and Champeaux in France
and in Neudorf in Germany. The workcamps offer
a chance for people to learn more about the International
movement and the work of ATD Fourth World.
They are also a chance to learn more about what
poverty means and how it exists today.
2nd Programme: Volunteers can join in with
street workshops in the most disadvantaged area
in Europe. The aim is to create a festival
atmosphere as part of the fight against poverty
and social deprivation.
3rd Programme: 3 month induction programmes
are held in London. No two programmes are
ever the same due to the varied and progressive
nature of ATD Fourth World's work, but they all
have the same aims; to discover the lives and work
of the permanent volunteers and to begin to discover
the lives and hopes of Fourth World families.
4th Programme: For those who are with us on
their gap year there is the opportunity to join
the International movement and ultimately one of
its teams in Europe. There, one could work
with children or families experiencing extreme poverty,
in cultural projects such as Street Libraries, People's
Universities or Art projects, help in the offices
or help with the maintenance of the buildings.
After one year, applicants can also apply to work
with one of our teams in another continent outside
of Europe.
