Though
way off the beaten track and a place most of us are unlikely
to ever visit, the Falkland Islands retain a high level
of consciousness in the British psyche. Despite the increasing
popularity of South America as a destination, high prices
for flights and minimal capacity for tourism have kept
most travellers away from the Islands.
Those
that do make it here usually come for two things: birds
and battlefields. The islands are home to a rich variety
of wildlfe, and it is this that is the driving force of
the local tourist economy.
One
Island particularly blessed with natural resources is
Sea Lion Island; location of the Sea Lion Lodge and the
southern most British hotel and nature reserve in the
world. The Sea
Lion Island reserve features penguins, sealions, elephant
seals, killer whales and over 40 different species of
birds.
Jobs
at the lodge include chef, chef's assistant, tour guide,
housekeeper, barman, gardener and general handyman. Applicants
should be EU nationals and have a genuine interest and
enthusiasm in the positions they are applying for. With
so much nature about, it is probably helpful that applicants
enjoy that too and can cope with life in a remote landscape.
Interviews
are held in the UK from May for the southern hemisphere
summer season of October to April. Return flights from
the UK will be paid to successful candidates and training
will be given.
