Visions in Action is committed to achieving social and economic justice in the developing world through grassroots programs and communities of self-reliant volunteers. This is accomplished through our classic volunteer program, which supports NGOs in our program countries, and through our supported volunteer program, which staffs our development programs.

Work or Activities
Classic Volunteer Positions
Volunteers interested in working in Africa have the option of staying six or twelve months. Programs begin in January and July with an orientation program led by the in-country coordinator. Throughout three intense weeks, volunteers receive language instruction, attend development seminars, participate in home stays, and travel to various cultural sites. During the orientation volunteers interview and select their placement with a volunteer organization.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
-Demonstrated commitment to international development
-Must be 20 years of age or older
-All nationalities are eligible
-Prior overseas and cross-cultural experience preferred
-A college degree or equivalent experience

Supported Volunteer Positions
Supported volunteers (SVs) work directly with Visions in Action to develop programs in the country and to build up the classic volunteer program

Qualifications
-At least one year of experience in relevant field
-At least one year of experience in health adminstration, public health, or health services management.
-Knowledge of social development in an African context -Experience supervising and/or training others preferred.
-University degree required
-Fluent in English; excellent communication skills required
-Provide own laptop computer to use in the field
-Willingness to work in a difficult and insecure environment.

Classic Volunteer: Tanzania, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda
Supported Volunteers: Liberia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda.

Fees
South Africa & Uganda: 6 mo. $4,700 12 mo. $5,900 Tanzania: 6 mo. $5,700 12 mo. $6,900

Wages
Supported Volunteers: shared housing, basic health coverage, and a modest monthly stipend, arrange for a work permit and transportation to the work site.
