Work or Activities
Reforestation and Farm Work
This project manages and protects over six thousand hectares of native forest. It has reforested hundreds of hectares of dry tropical forest in abandoned pasture lands or burned areas within the forest since its inauguration.
Help is needed to record data on tree growth and mortality in selected parcels, which will help determine future reforestation efforts, including species composition, etc., as well as research information in local libraries on certain tree species to use in future education programmes.
The project has also set up an integrated organic farm in the reserve buffer zone to provide alternatives to the slash-and-burn agriculture that was previously used. Volunteers are needed in various projects including beekeeping, agroforestry, integrated pest management, and small animal husbandry (guinea pigs, chickens, ducks). This project provides the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution towards the protection of a tropical forest.
Volunteers are provided with accommodation and one meal (lunch) per day.
