Tsunami Restoration in India

Organisation:
Involvement Volunteers

Location:
Karaikal, Nagappatnam, Velanganni and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, India

Details:
Involvement Volunteering is a cost effective way for people of all ages to gain practical experience; or to learn from practical experience while helping others as a real volunteer, and meeting the local people and their culture when travelling in a foreign country.

The host for the Tsunami Project has now completed all emergency relief work projects and is launching the next phase of rehabilitation and sustainable development. These long term work camps will be focused on the rehabilitation of the areas mentioned above and on the construction of housing, the renovation and betterment of schools and orphanages, and giving support to the local organizations. Finally the hosts and volunteers will try to bring happiness to the traumatised children with a weekly celebration (Happy Hearts).

The accommodation will be simple, with shared rooms in an apartment, with basic facilities. Mattresses will be provided, but the volunteers have to bring their own sleeping bags (a thin sleeping bag is advised) and have to be prepared to sleep on the floor. Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner (Indian food) along with snacks will be provided from a neighboring restaurant.

Eligibility:
Aged 16+
(written parental consent is required if under 18). Anyone can volunteer as long as they are able to gain visas for India. IV are unable to provide assistance in obtaining visas and do not write letters in support of visa applications.

Cost:
The Placement Cost to participate in these camps will be 3750 Indian Rupees per week (approx. 70 Euros / 85 US Dollars). The fee will be collected in Indian Rupees as cash on your arrival to participate. It covers all food and accommodation costs as well as transportation for the chosen duration of stay on the camps. Part of this fee will also support the projects in which the volunteers will participate. Volunteers pay their own way to India.

Departure Dates:
IV accept registrations at any time throughout the year but would prefer you to send your registration at least 3 weeks before you are due to depart.
