Twelve Month Internships in New York City

Organisation:
Mountbatten Internship Programme

Location:
New York, USA

Details:
The Mountbatten Internship Programme promotes educational and business links between the USA and the UK and aims to give graduates and young professionals the opportunity to gain practical and theoretical business experience, whilst also developing social and cultural awareness and understanding.

The 12 month training programme provides an opportunity to learn about American and International business techniques, and to experience the rich cultural diversity of America's most cosmopolitan city. Successful completion of the programme leads to a professional qualification: the Certificate in International Business Practice.

At the heart of the programme is a year's work placement in or near New York City with one of many American sponsor companies. Sponsors vary from large multinational organizations to small businesses and reflect many different fields including financial services, accountancy, law, advertising, PR, wholesale, retail, travel, and telecommunications.

Depending on your interests, skills, demeanour and some luck of the draw, your placement may range from a clerical or administrative spot to a project-based or perhaps a research-based position. The positions offered are office based and usually entry level in nature.

Eligibility:
Interns are young men and women who have graduated after two or more years of higher education or training, typically at university or further education college. 9 out of 10 are university graduates. In certain circumstances candidates may offer two A levels [ or equivalent ] plus a year of training coupled with two years of good experience.

You don't have to be a native English-speaker but your written and spoken English must be first rate. You must be in good health; and you stand a better chance of being placed if you can type accurately at 50 words-per-minute and are familiar with the word processors, spreadsheets, and other computer packages popularly used in business.

Interns are ambassadors for their respective countries and so the Programme directors are seeking young professionals with a high degree of maturity who present themselves well. Applicants should be self-starters, who are not afraid of hard work, and are prepared to make and honour a year-long commitment.

The vast majority of interns come from Britain, with some from Europe, and Australia, and a few from other parts of the world. All interns are recruited and interviewed either in Britain or in Sydney, Australia.

Cost:
Registration Fee: £55 (non-refundable).
Initial Deposit (of Participation Fee): £475, payable on acceptance to the programme.
Participation Fee (remainder): £1,425, payable when a placement is confirmed.
£1,955 in total.

Departure Dates:
Internships begin in January, May and September. The next available intake is January 2006. The application deadline is July 31st. Interviews will be held in October 2005.
