Student Jobs With BUNAC Work Canada

Organisation:
BUNAC

Location:
Canada

Details:
BUNAC's Work Canada programme offers students the chance to live and work in Canada for three to twelve months. A great opportunity to see the whole of Canada’s provinces and territories plus the rest of North America.
You decide what sort of job you want to do and where you want to work in Canada. Most students take casual vacation jobs in the tourism or hospitality industries or work in one of Canada’s popular ski resorts. Typical jobs include:

  • Shop assistant
  • Ski lift operator
  • Office supervisor
  • Ski resort rep
  • Hotel receptionist
  • Chambermaid
  • Waiting on tables

You are not restricted to this type of work however. The Work Authorisation is flexible and allows you to look for other types of work and work anywhere in Canada during your stay. Most participants work in Ontario (Toronto), Alberta (summer and winter resorts in the Canadian Rockies) and British Columbia (Vancouver, Whistler and Victoria).

BUNAC’s exclusive Job Listings are potential job leads for you to pursue. Simply apply for any listed job in the same way you would apply to a job in the UK. The listings are included in your Vital Info handbook which you’ll receive on acceptance to the programme.

Other ways of finding work in Canada include using personal contacts, searching on the internet or writing to UK companies with branches in Canada.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the 2005 Work Canada programme as a student (the non student programme is closed for 2005), you must be:

  • a British or Irish passport holder aged 18-30 inclusive when you apply to the programme and at the time of entry to Canada
  • a current full-time student on a degree level course or equivalent (such as HND or NVQ level 4 or 5) at a UK university or, a gap year student with a guaranteed place at university starting in 2005
  • resident in the UK for the duration of the application procedure.

Current students can spend their summer break in Canada. Final years can stay for up to a whole year. As a student, you can take part on Work Canada more than once providing you still meet the eligibility requirements and have been in full time education between programmes.

This programme is not open to people with dependents.

Cost:
£5 to join BUNAC (if not already a member) and £156 registration fee. This goes towards programme literature and administration, UK presentations, arrival orientation and the support services of BUNAC and SWAP. BUNAC’s compulsory insurance policy, in association with Endsleigh, costs approx. £210 for six month’s comprehensive cover. You will also need to take at least £500 in support funds.

Departure Dates:
Available all year.
Spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis and early application is recommended. A programme for non students is next available in 2006.
