Though ranked number one in a past A Place in the Sun list of places to profit from property in Europe, Romania didn't receive anywhere near as much attention from buyers as neighbouring Bulgaria. Romania's tourism industry draws heavily on Dracula to lure tourists and Transylvania is a popular draw for incoming visitors. Visitors to the capital Bucharest are surprised at how stylish the place is - forgetful that the city was once known as the 'Paris of the East' - partly a result of former dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu's urban cleansing planning policy.
