The neglected ex partner of the Czech Republic, one wonders what Slovakia got out of its mutually agreed divorce from its more shining former spouse. The capital Bratislava is sometimes dubbed mini Prague. When people say 'I'm off to eastern Europe to teach English,' what they mean is they are going to Prague. Buying a property? Prague (Slovakia accommodates a fraction of the numbers of expats lured to the Czech Republic but is regarded by many as a better investment prospect). Holiday? Prague. Drunken stag party? Prague. So, in a nutshell, Slovakia is the Czech Republic without the crowds, far less groups of braying stag parties, has less competition for teaching jobs and offers better value for money to those choosing to settle in the area.
