A few eyebrows may rise at the title above but it shouldn't
really surprise anyone. Having mastered the art of building
artificial islands and flogging bits of them off to Premier
League footballers, a ski resort is no trouble at all.
Bored
with fountains - the hotels are full of them - architects
in this part of the United Arab Emirates instead solved
the dilemma of creating a focal point for the new shopping
mall by filling it with 22,500 square metres of snow.
With a capacity of 1500 guests, a snow castle and ice
caverns, the indoor resort has four slopes, up to 400
metres, for all levels of ability, chairlifts and a snowboard
stunt park.
Open
in September 2005, the Mall of the Emirates offers a number
of ski positions alongside the usual compliment of retail
roles. These include ski and snowboard instructors, lift
operators, looking after children, equipment hire and
snow groomers.
Ski
Dubai, who take care of the ski side activities of the
Mall, believe that "professionalism, quality and
diversity are the foundation for success and are always
looking for energetic, professional and dedicated people
to join their team." If you are interested to pursue
a career with them send your CV or resume to: careers@skidxb.com

Indoor Ski Resorts
A second faux winter resort, due to open in 2006, is the
Dubai Sunny Mountain Ski Dome. While in Spain, the Madrid
Xanadu Mall hosts the 24,000 square metres of snow
that makes up the Parque
de Nieve (both websites are in Spanish).
