ATM scam
ATMs in tourist areas are prey to scammers. Your card is swallowed up by the machine and you wander off intending to get the card back from the bank next day. In the meantime the person who blocked the slot has fished out your card and gone happy spending. We know, or have heard, of several reports of this scam in Altinkum.
Take your phone
If you have a Turkish phone, and are travelling to Kos Town to renew your visa, take it with you. Kos is only a few miles from the Turkish mainland and your phone may work there. Remember though if you are calling a Greek number it will be an international call.
Wear nice socks
Wear the good, clean socks without holes in them if you have been invited into a Turkish home as you will be expected to take your shoes off before entering.
